Eco Drive: your answer to the new WLTP regulations

Since September 1, 2018, there has been the new Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure, or WLTP test for short. Among other things, this test checks whether a vehicle complies with the rules on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. The Eco Drive solution from All-Connects helps you more easily monitor consumption and driving behaviour of your fleet.

Sequel to outdated NEDC test

Although the revamped test only came about in September 2018, its predecessor - the "NEDC test" - was first used back in the 1970s. Over the years, of course, many things changed, including, for example, the amount of traffic on the track.

30 years ago, you didn't stand in traffic jams the way you do today. There's also a world of difference between the cars you're on the road with today, compared to those of three decades ago. So it makes sense that the NEDC test became obsolete because of those changes, which led to the new WLTP test.

Why is there the WLTP test?

To ensure the safety and propriety of products, they must comply with imposed regulations before they are put on the market. This is no different with vehicles. Thus, various tests are conducted in which the vehicle's performance is mapped out, and afterwards it is determined whether or not it complies with the rules.

Suppose you are planning to purchase a new car. Before making a decision, you compare various models and brands, don't you? After all, you want to buy the car that best meets your criteria without paying through the nose in taxes.

Among other things, the CO2 emission value of a car affects certain taxes. When viewing cars in the showroom, you can find information on CO² emissions and fuel consumption next to each vehicle, making it easier to compare vehicles and make the right choice.

An additional help

As you probably know, the values on those chips assume a "perfect" driver in an "ideal" situation. But of course, that does not mean that you will eventually be able to match these values, as it depends entirely on the driver of the vehicle. This is because emissions and fuel consumption depend on how you drive the car.

Are you a quiet driver who never pushes the limits of your car? Then there is really no reason to worry. However, are you someone who regularly dares to go over the permitted speeds and accelerates sportily at traffic lights? Then your fuel consumption and other values will be higher than the estimated measurements.

What can Eco Drive do for me?

With the environment and your wallet in mind, we at All-Connects developed our Eco Drive solution. With Eco Drive, you get clear insight into your car's fuel consumption and the performance of both your vehicle and driver. Everything is mapped correctly in our handy app - your go-to guide for being ecologically responsible on the road.

As mentioned earlier, greater consumption is not only due to the type of vehicle, but also to the driving style of the driver. For example, there are some things that have a big effect on consumption. Consider:

  • pick up speed
  • choosing the right speed
  • engine braking

With Eco Drive, several options and combinations are possible. Pushing the gas pedal too far? Braking too fast or just too slow in corners? Driving at too high an RPM? You track this - and so much more - closely thanks to a system that records everything for you.

Are there multiple vehicles whose use you want to optimize? You easily view the details per vehicle via the handy application available for smartphone, tablet, PC or laptop.
