How does asset management with QR codes work?
You attach a QR tag to each piece of equipment: a machine, a container, a trailer, or a tool. Each tag corresponds to a single asset in CHECK.connect.
If someone scans that tag with their smartphone, they’ll immediately see which device it is, along with the technical information, documents, and certificates associated with it. From that screen, they can also report damage, fill out a checklist, or sign for receipt.
Does my employee need an app to scan?
No. Scanning is done using the camera on a regular smartphone, with no installation required and no prior instructions needed. That makes it suitable for temporary staff, subcontractors, and customers as well.
What's the difference between a Bluetooth tag and a GPS tracker?
A QR code only works when someone scans it. So you know where an asset was at the time of the last scan, and who had it at that moment. That’s enough for tools, ladders, racks, and containers that are passed from person to person.
A Bluetooth tag is automatically detected as soon as it comes within range of a gateway or a vehicle. A GPS tracker transmits its location on its own, even when no one is nearby. The more valuable and mobile the equipment, the more likely you are to use these two options.
What if a QR code gets damaged or becomes unreadable?
Equipment at a shipyard is put through its paces, so we take that into account. If a tag is damaged, you replace it with a new one and link it to the same asset. The asset’s history is preserved: the documents, damage reports, and previous scans all remain intact.
Can a customer or subcontractor scan the items themselves?
Yes, and that’s one of its strongest applications. A customer can use the QR code to sign off on the delivery or pickup of an asset, report damage with a photo, or let us know that a container or concrete form is ready for pickup.
This way, communication takes place through the equipment itself, rather than through phone calls and emails that no one can find later.
Does it work even without an internet connection on the job site?
You’ll need an internet connection to scan, because the QR code opens the asset’s details on the platform. In areas with poor reception, it’s best to plan your scan at a location with coverage—for example, at the yard entrance or at the loading and unloading area.
Who provides the QR tags, and how much do they cost?
We supply tags tailored to where they will be used: equipment located outdoors or subjected to harsh conditions requires a more durable design than tools stored in a warehouse.
