The transport sector accounts for 33% of total energy consumption in Europe, with the road transport sector accounting for more than 80% of that energy, according to the European Commission. In recent years, however, companies have experienced a trend to improve vehicle utilization processes to reduce energy consumption and vehicle fuel consumption. It means companies are focusing on increasing fleet efficiency and driver behavior while promoting positive changes across the industry.

Our driving behavior analysis solution shows what actions the driver takes using his knowledge, perceptual and cognitive skills. Over time, this has improved significantly and now we have a very precisely developed thoughtful solution that allows our customers to evaluate driving performance based on various criteria, such as:

  • Fuel-efficient driving
  • Idling
  • Bulge
  • Hard braking, acceleration, hard cornering, etc.

These criteria are used to assign performance ratings from A to G to drivers, as well as to prepare a more detailed report reflecting each driver's habits.

"The solution serves not only as an analytical tool for the employer, but also as feedback for the drivers. It also allows them to achieve better driving performance, improve road safety and reduce fuel consumption and emissions."

Analysis of steering behavior in a large company

More and more companies, both local and international, are implementing driver behavior in their fleet management processes, as the solution helps improve driver performance and optimize assets. SCHWENK, a global manufacturer of construction materials with a presence in more than 50 countries around the world, was one of the first companies in Latvia to start using a driver behavior solution.

SCHWENK has been using our Fleet Management solutions since 2015, and the Driving Behavior Analysis solution - from when it was introduced in 2017.

The company made this decision to ensure driver safety, one of its top priorities.

An investment in the professional growth of drivers

Regular and detailed analysis of driving behavior allows company management to evaluate which aspects of driver performance need improvement. In addition, it provides the necessary resources to teach drivers how to improve their driving behavior.

It is important to the company that SCHWENK drivers are professional and highly respected members of the road traffic, who follow the principles of safe and polite driving. The data collected allows for analysis:

  • Driving speed
  • Hard acceleration and braking
  • Sharp curves
  • Use of cruise control and coasting
  • Idling and other actions

Based on the results obtained, the company is working to educate its employees on driving culture and safety. For example, the incidence of sharp turns has significantly decreased, reducing the risk of rollover.

The ability to see the full picture of driver performance is a major benefit that helps improve logistical efficiency and optimize fuel consumption, depreciation and operating costs. SCHWENK operating specifications include vehicle operations in hard-to-reach locations that have a significant impact on fuel consumption and depreciation costs.

With AllConnects' Fleet management solution, the company can recognize these locations in their driving behavior analysis and use this data to prepare even better offers for their customers.

A solution for improving corporate and environmental sustainability

Various types of research have been conducted worldwide on ways in which driving behavior affects vehicle technical condition, road accidents and even emission levels. For example, scientists in the U.S. have found that hard acceleration and braking can waste fuel and with a reduction in mileage of 33% on the highway and by 5% in the city. The more fuel consumed, the more emissions are released into the atmosphere.

While using the system, SCHWENK has reduced fuel consumption and improved the driving culture within its fleet. Safety is the company's top priority both locally and globally. Moreover, SCHWENK has received several awards recognizing its business results and best performance in this area.
