Why dashcams are becoming indispensable in traffic - a customer speaks out

Vedam.lv: Dashcams help clarify unclear situations

Successful fleet management relies on data, and video footage is one of the most reliable sources of information. That's why capturing what's happening around your vehicle via dashcams is becoming increasingly popular.

Latvian moving company Vedam.lv confirms the benefits of dashcams. Vedam.lv operates a fleet of 23 vans, 15 of which operate in Latvia and 8 in Estonia. Our software partner, Mapon, invited Gatis Rūtiņš, CEO of Vedam.lv, to talk about their successful implementation of dashcams and what to look out for when choosing such a solution.

Why choose dash cams for your fleet?

Gatis explains that before working with Mapon, Vedam.lv had already tried another dashcam supplier, but it was unsuccessful.

"At a crucial moment, we needed video footage to prove that our driver was not at fault in an accident, but it turned out that nothing had been recorded. The camera had not saved anything for months, leaving us without important evidence," Gatis recalls.

This incident immediately prompted them to look for another supplier - and so they ended up with Mapon.

"What convinced us with Mapon was the quality of their systems and the clear answers to all our questions," Gatis said.

Who watches the dashcam footage?

The images from the Mapon dashcams can also be viewed via smartphone. At Vedam.lv, there is a quality manager who checks the images when necessary. That logs into the Mapon platform on average 3-5 times a week to view images - both randomly and based on customer comments.

Dashcams increase safety

Vedam.lv stresses that safety was the main reason for installing dashcams. And for them, safety is more than just vehicle protection - it is also about the safety of cargo, employees and other road users.

The team of about 30 drivers is positive about the dashcams. According to Gatis, much depends on how you as a company explain why you choose monitoring.

"We have placed particular emphasis on how cameras contribute to the safety of our people, for example, by allowing them to prove their innocence in disputed situations."

What situations are they?

It's not just about accidents or insurance claims. There were also cases at Vedam.lv where customers claimed they had not received their entire order. Thanks to the camera images, the company was able to prove that everything had been delivered correctly, defending their employees as well as protecting their reputation.

"It's crucial that your dashcams always work. If a customer says they didn't receive something, the footage allows us to prove that everything was delivered and in good condition," says Gatis.

The cameras are also useful for maneuvers in narrow passages. The technical manager of Vedam.lv uses the live images on his smartphone to check blind spots and avoid damage.
