Having all the data easily accessible in the same software makes day-to-day work much easier.Isto — Foreman at Remeo
Advanced fleet management isn’t just about collecting fleet data—it’s about optimizing your company’s resources and respecting the environment. Remeo, a Finnish waste management company and advocate for the circular economy, uses MAPON solutions for data-driven operational optimization and the development of eco-friendly driving practices.
We speak with Joonas Savolainen (Development Manager) and fleet managers Isto and Neea about how advanced fleet management supports their vision of reducing environmental impact and optimizing operations.
What makes this partnership special: Remeo fully integrates MAPON into its daily operations—from real-time tracking and driving behavior analysis to vehicle maintenance and CO2 reporting—all on a single platform.
Real-time fleet data for better decision-making
Fleet managers at Isto and Neea use the management platform every day to monitor the location of company vehicles and drivers’ behavior in real time. The driving behavior analysis reports provide valuable insights for training sessions and performance reviews with drivers.
In addition to vehicle location data, the management platform provides a wealth of other useful information for supervisors. The platform is a great tool for resolving feedback and damage reports—locations, route history, times, and driving speeds are always available to streamline the resolution process.
Live tracking
Real-time insight into the location of each vehicle and what the driver is doing while on the road.
Driving performance reports
Detailed analyses for each driver to serve as a basis for coaching, training, and feedback.
Claims Processing
Route history and timestamps make it easy to verify or refute claims.
Dashboards
Clear reports for supervisors and foremen covering the entire fleet.
Fleet efficiency and maintenance all in one place
Efficient use of the vehicle fleet is crucial for Remeo: its business operations revolve entirely around its fleet. Joonas Savolainen explains how the platform makes a difference here:
Data from the management platform regarding fleet efficiency and usage is used to determine the optimal number of vehicles and to schedule work shifts. This ensures that all units are utilized as efficiently as possible.
At Remeo, fleet maintenance is a straightforward process because drivers regularly perform vehicle inspections using the DRIVER app. Based on these inspections, supervisors schedule the necessary maintenance. Vehicle-specific information regarding maintenance and inspection dates is always available in the system.
In addition to fleet efficiency and maintenance, MAPON also provides mileage data used for carbon footprint calculations —an essential tool for Remeo’s sustainability goals.
Towards greener and more economical driving habits
Remeo’s search for a reliable fleet management solution began in 2018 with the goal of optimizing fleet management processes and placing greater emphasis on monitoring driving behavior. Driving behavior monitoring provides accurate information about the driver’s habits behind the wheel.
The solution includes data on driving behaviors such as eco-speed, coasting, idling, hard acceleration, and hard braking. In addition, Remeo monitors drivers’ speeds. This data is used to identify responsible driving behaviors and address wasteful habits.
Supervisors can then teach drivers to drive more fuel-efficiently, safely, and sustainably. Many Remeo drivers see this as a positive challenge.
Remeo's measurable improvement in driving behavior
Remeo's goal was to focus on developing the driving style parameter known as "coasting": the moment when a vehicle is driven with the transmission in neutral. The goal was to increase the coasting percentage to 10%. In practice, this translates to a 10% reduction in fuel consumption and an equivalent reduction in emissions.
In addition to reducing emissions, coasting also helps preserve the vehicle—braking less frequently significantly extends the life of the tires and brakes.
One of the most tangible insights came from a Remeo driver who realized that driving more efficiently doesn’t take away from his work time, but does make a huge difference in fuel costs:
Fuel savings
Significant fuel savings are achieved even at a 15% idling rate.
CO2 reduction
Equivalent to the CO2 emissions from 200 heated homes per year saved.
Less maintenance
Braking more gently extends the life of your tires and brake components.
Top Drivers
The best drivers achieved a completion rate of up to 30%—well above the target.
