Remeo Drives More Efficiently and Sustainably with Fleet Data

An international use case: how the Finnish waste management company Remeo uses fleet data and driving behavior monitoring to drive more efficiently and sustainably.

International use case

Remeo is a Finnish company specializing in waste management and the circular economy. Remeo uses driving behavior monitoring to improve fuel efficiency and fleet data to optimize its scheduling and maintenance—all powered by the same technology on which FLEET.connect is built. Remeo is not a client of AllConnects: this is an international use case from our technology partner to demonstrate the capabilities of FLEET.connect.

"Having all the data easily accessible in the same software is a huge help in our day-to-day work."

About Remeo

Remeo is a Finnish company specializing in waste management and the circular economy. The entire company revolves around its fleet: its green trucks are on the road every day. Since 2018, Remeo has been using fleet management to drive its operations with data and improve fuel efficiency.

Development Manager Joonas Savolainen and fleet managers Isto and Neea explained to our technology partner how they go about it.

Fleet data as the basis for planning

Isto and Neea use the platform every day to track the vehicles' locations and monitor the drivers' driving behavior. In the event of damage reports or complaints, location data, routes, times, and speeds are immediately available.

"In general, fleet management accounts for 50% of resource planning, and our people make up the other half. At Remeo, the driver and the vehicle always go hand in hand. That’s why it’s really important for us to have the right number of vehicles, so we can avoid underutilizing them or constantly running out of them."
Joonas Savolainen, Development Managerat Remeo, in a conversation with our technology partner

Live tracking

Where is each vehicle, and what is the driver doing while on the road?

Driving performance reports

Analyses by driver as a basis for coaching and discussions.

Claims Processing

Trip history and timestamps make it easy to verify reports.

Vehicle Inspections and Maintenance

Drivers perform their inspections in the app; supervisors use that information to schedule maintenance.

Remeo also uses the mileage data to calculate its carbon footprint.

Driving More Efficiently: Focusing on Coasting

The driving behavior monitoring system tracks, among other things, eco-speed, coasting, idling, and hard acceleration and braking. Remeo focused on coasting: driving without pressing the accelerator, so that the vehicle uses its momentum. The goal was a coasting percentage of 10%, which, according to Remeo, corresponds to approximately 10% less fuel consumption and emissions.

"In the long term, the expansion of the fleet will result in fewer repairs, and in this way we will also conserve natural resources."
Recap of a conversation with our technology partner

For the drivers, it turned out to be a positive challenge. One of them noticed that driving more efficiently doesn't take any extra time, but it does save a lot of fuel:

"By obtaining the data and focusing on rollout, the refueling interval is now three days instead of two, while the work is still getting done just as efficiently."
Driver,Remeo, in a conversation with our technology partner

The result

200 homes
Annual CO2 savings, expressed in terms of residential heating
3 instead of 2
number of days between refueling stops for a driver who focused on coasting
"Thanks to our fuel-efficient driving habits, we have saved the equivalent of the carbon dioxide emissions from heating 200 private homes per year."
Recap of a conversation with our technology partner

According to Isto and Joonas, the platform is intuitive and easy to learn: with just some basic training, you can get started right away.

What Remeo does with fleet data, you can do too

With FLEET.connect, you can track driving behavior, maintenance, and fuel consumption all on one platform. We’d be happy to work with you to see what benefits more fuel-efficient driving could bring to your fleet.
