Bertschi tailors its driver training to driving behavior data

An international use case: How the Swiss chemical transportation group Bertschi AG uses driving behavior data to provide targeted training for each driver.

International use case

Bertschi AG is a Swiss logistics group and the European market leader in intermodal chemical transport, with approximately 1,100 trucks. Bertschi uses GPS tracking and driving behavior analysis to plan deliveries and tailor safety training to each driver. Bertschi AG is not a customer of AllConnects: this is an international use case from our technology partner to demonstrate what is possible with FLEET.connect.

"Thanks to the driving behavior parameters, we can tailor our behavior-based safety training specifically to the needs of each driver."

About Bertschi AG

Bertschi AG is a Swiss logistics group specializing in the transport of liquids and dry bulk products for the chemical industry. The company is the European market leader in intermodal chemical transport—by rail, road, and water—and has subsidiaries in 38 countries. Its fleet consists of approximately 1,100 trucks that deliver to hundreds of locations throughout Europe.

In an industry that deals with hazardous substances, safety is no afterthought. That’s why Bertschi’s motto is “Stop at risk.”

The Challenge: Visibility and Safety

"Visibility is always a major challenge when it comes to providing reliable logistics services. Only when you have sufficient and accurate information about the current status of the shipment can you plan efficiently and, as a result, improve service quality."

Bertschi was therefore looking for a fleet management solution that provides transparent data about the fleet and helps improve driver performance.

From a pilot project in Finland to the entire fleet

Bertschi’s Finnish subsidiary first tested the technology for nearly a year. The group then decided to continue testing for another year, during which a number of features were developed specifically for Bertschi. Only then was the technology rolled out to all of the group’s trucks.

"After testing the platform for a year, we realized its potential and decided to continue the trial period. The quality of the service and the smooth, clear collaboration were crucial factors in our decision to equip all Bertschi AG trucks with it."

Driving behavior data as the basis for personalized training

Among other things, Bertschi uses GPS tracking to plan deliveries and provide customers with reliable arrival times. But according to Paula Sanchez Sobrini, the most useful feature is the driving behavior analysis.

"Thanks to the driving behavior parameters, we can tailor our behavior-based safety training (BBS) specifically to the needs of each driver. By offering personalized training that focuses on their key areas for improvement—such as smooth and efficient driving—we can ensure that the number of traffic accidents is kept to a minimum."

Training per driver

The driving behavior data show each driver where they can improve the most.

User-friendly, with service that follows through

"The quick response to any issues that may arise, and the willingness to help Bertschi AG achieve its goals, is undoubtedly the most valuable aspect of the entire service."

You can do what Bertschi does with driving behavior data, too

With FLEET.connect, you can see where each driver has the most room for improvement and tailor your training accordingly. We’d be happy to work with you to see what that means for your fleet.
