SCHWENK Uses Data to Improve Its Drivers' Driving Performance

An international use case: How building materials manufacturer SCHWENK uses driving behavior analysis to train its drivers and reduce the number of sharp turns.

International use case

SCHWENK is a German manufacturer of building materials, operating in more than 50 countries. In Latvia, SCHWENK uses driving behavior analysis to train its drivers, utilizing the same technology on which FLEET.connect is built. SCHWENK is not a client of AllConnects: this is an international use case from our technology partner to demonstrate what is possible with FLEET.connect.

About SCHWENK

SCHWENK is a German manufacturer of building materials, operating in more than 50 countries. In Latvia, SCHWENK was one of the first companies to implement driving behavior analysis for its fleet. The company has been using fleet management technology since 2015 and driving behavior analysis since it became available in 2017.

The reason: driver safety is one of SCHWENK's top priorities.

What the driving behavior analysis measures

The analysis shows how a driver drives and translates that into a score for each driver and a detailed report on their driving habits. SCHWENK monitors the following, among other things:

Speed

Driving speed and the use of cruise control.

Hard acceleration and braking

Abrupt maneuvers that consume fuel and put a strain on the vehicle.

Sharp curves

Heavy trucks pose a significant risk of rollover.

Coasting and Idling

Two habits that directly affect fuel consumption.

It's not just a monitoring tool. The analysis serves as a resource for the employer, but also provides feedback to the drivers themselves: this helps them drive better, stay safer on the road, and use less fuel.

From Data to Education

Based on the results, SCHWENK trains its drivers in driving culture and safety. The impact is clear: the number of sharp turns has decreased significantly, and with it, the risk of rollovers.

In addition, SCHWENK’s trucks often travel to hard-to-reach locations, which has a significant impact on fuel consumption and wear and tear. Because the analysis identifies these locations, SCHWENK can take them into account when preparing quotes.

The result

Since SCHWENK began using the system, fuel consumption has decreased and driving habits within the fleet have improved. In addition, less aggressive braking and acceleration result in less wear and tear and lower emissions.

You can do what SCHWENK does with driving behavior data, too

With FLEET.connect, you can monitor your drivers’ driving behavior and use the data to provide targeted coaching. We’d be happy to work with you to see what that means for your fleet.
